St. Louis – There were no injuries, but two cars were crushed and a third damaged when part of a two-story parking garage collapsed Wednesday morning in downtown St. Louis.
Investigators are still looking into the cause. City building commissioner Ron Smith says the steel-frame structure had not been examined regularly.
"We do inspections" Smith said. "We just don't have a regular program of going out annually, but we do inspect once we get information that we need to look into it."
Smith says he wants to begin frequent structural examinations of parking garages.
The garage, which is near police headquarters, is privately owned.
