St. Louis, MO – St. Louis police say the city's murder rate this year is on pace to be the lowest in more than four decades.
There were 113 killings in the city last year but this year, through Thursday, Chief Joe Mokwa says there have been just 56. The chief says John F. Kennedy was President the last time the city's murder rate was this low.
There were 140 murders in 2001. The chief hopes that the city closes the year well below 100 homicides, something he says has not taken place since the 1950s and 1960s.
