St. Louis, MO – Bob Holden and Rod Blagojevich were two of seven governors to sign a letter to President Bush this week, expressing concerns over proposed changes in Missouri River regulations.
The governors are from states along the Mississippi River; they want the President to reject any plan for managing the Missouri that hurts Mississippi River commerce.
This summer, a court ordered water lowered on the Missouri to protect endangered species' nesting spots. Those drops, along with a drought, then forced the Mississippi closed to river commerce for a few days.
The governors say the changes could hurt Mississippi River agriculture, industry and transportation. Holden and Blagojevich were join by the governors of Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
