Springfield, IL – One of the students injured in a southern Illinois school bus crash earlier this week has died.
Hospital officials in Springfield say 14-year-old Shawna Ward died this morning from her injuries. Her mother, Debbie Ward of Fillmore, Illinois, says Shawna pelvis and legs were crushed in the accident.
Shawna was one of 16 people hurt when the bus skidded off a two-lane country road Wednesday and plunged halfway down a 40-foot ravine.
All 15 students on the bus were injured. And 70-year-old bus driver Eugene Rogers had to undergo surgery to reattach his ear.
