Kansas City, Mo. – State Auditor Claire McCaskill says the Missouri Department of Transportion needs a change in leadership.

In reaction to a series of stories in The Kansas City Star, McCaskill is calling for the resignation of MoDot Director Henry Hungerbeeler. She says his agency is unresponsive to change and doesn't focus on improving worn-out roads.

"They've continued to waste money on unnecessary p.r. departments and fancy magazines. Instead, what they should be doing is saying 'this is how many miles of road we have in Missouri that is in good or excellent condition' and every year we should know how many more miles have they put into that category," McCaskill said.

McCaskill also supports doing away with the state Highways and Transportion commission, with a transportation secretary taking its place.
