St. Louis, MO – Sharpton marched with protestors in St. Louis July 31 to fight for increased minority contractor participation in the Metrolink light rail expansion project. On Saturday, he'll visit a North St. Louis shopping center as a Democratic candidate seeking the White House. Activist Zaki Baruti says the event is designed to help Sharpton carve out a niche among Missouri voters:
"This is the first start here in the St. Louis area and in the state of Missouri towards laying out the various issues and creating the momentum for support for his candidacy," Baruti said.
In addition to minority contractors, Baruti says Sharpton is expected to address police and community relations and possibly public education.
