St. Louis, MO – Quentin, the dog who recently survived a trip to the gas chamber, has a new home.

He was turned over to Stray Rescue after the ordeal, and about 700 people from all around the country asked to adopt the dog.

But Quentin won't go far; the Rescue's founder Randy Grim has decided to keep the animal himself.

Quentin will be the focal point of a national campaign to raise awareness of the millions of strays euthanized each year.

The 30-pound basenji survived a trip to the gas chamber last week. The campaign is organized by California-based In Defense of Animals, a group that is also donating $5,000 to an effort to eliminate the gas chamber as St. Louis' primary way of euthanizing strays.
