Jefferson City, MO – Unlike in California, there will be no
recall election for Missouri's governor.
That's because it's not an option under the Missouri Constitution.
The drafters of the 1945 Missouri Constitution did consider a recall provision.
But instead of allowing recall votes, convention delegates decided to modify the state's impeachment process -- which is now
the only way to remove a state official before his or her term expires.
After a House impeachment vote, the Senate previously decided whether to remove the person from office. An impeachment trial now is held by the state Supreme Court.
