St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis School Board will meet Monday night to consider a budget plan that would include 1,400 layoffs.
Teachers' aides, administrators, secretaries, custodians, mechanics and food workers would be among those to lose their jobs, but not teachers.
Still, the district's largest teachers union Sunday threatened to start classes late, if the School Board approves the new budget.
The meeting is Monday night at 7:00 at Vashon High School.
The union stopped short of saying it would tell its members not to report for work when schools reopen September eighth. If the School Board approves the budget, the school's full-time work force would drop by almost 25%. The budget contains about $64 million in savings.
