Marion, ILL. – Politically connected Belleville attorney Amiel Cueto is expected to get out of a federal prison today.
Cueto was convicted in 1997 of conspiracy and obstructing an investigation of gambling in southern Illinois. He will finish serving his sentence in a halfway house in St. Louis.
He continues to deny the allegations and is fighting to keep his suspended law license from being revoked. The 54-year-old served most of his sentence in a federal prison in South Dakota before he was moved to a minimum-security prison camp outside of Marion, Ill.
Cueto has reportedly donated about $2 million to Democratic Party candidates and committees.
