School Board Wins in Court

By K. Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, Mo. – A coalition of parents sued the school board in June, claiming that acting superintendent William Roberti was not qualified to lead the district because he was not state certified. Roberti is a managing partner with the private management team Alvarez and Marsal.

The plaintiffs wanted the judge to issue an injunction blocking Roberti's installation.

However, judge Steven Ohmer ruled today that the school board has the authority to hire consulting companies as it deems necessary.

In a written statement, the district said the ruling will allow it to move forward in addressing its financial crisis.

The attorney for the plaintiffs says he will appeal the motion.
