St. Louis, Mo. – A new St. Louis University study says older Americans feel less control over their lives as a result of the September 11th attacks.
Researchers surveyed 291 people in St. Louis and Indianapolis who were part of a mental health study that began before the attacks.
Public health professor Fredric Wolinsky says the research opportunity came by chance.
"It just so happened that 9/11 occurred right in the middle of our study, and
we had been tracking the personal stress, mental health, and sense of control, among other things, of the patients enrolled in our study," he said.
Wolinsky says while participants feel less control over their lives, the attacks did not change their feelings of stress and well-being.
