Jefferson City, Mo. – Some school districts in Missouri are preparing for a new lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Missouri's school funding efforts.
The group says a lawsuit will be filed if proposed cuts to public education are approved by the Legislature.
Two people who successfully sued the state in 1990 over school funding are part of the new initiative.
Carter County commissioner Gene Oakley says the state's public schools are in worse shape now than they were in 1990, when he and others sued over the state's school funding method.
Jefferson City attorney Alex Bartlett - who handled the previous case - says he expects another lawsuit before the end of the year. He has been consulted by several superintendent groups but has not yet been hired.
