Blagojevich Will File Taxes Later

By AP/KWMU

Springfield, Ill. – Illinois' chief executive says he needs more time to file his tax return.

Governor Rod Blagojevich filed for an extension Tuesday. His spokesman, Tom Schafer, says the governor needed more time because of the recent birth of his second daughter Anne.

Schafer says Blagojevich did send the Internal Revenue Service a payment exceeding $75,000, but adds he wasn't sure what the governor's total income was last year.

Part of it was the $150,000 salary Blagojevich earned as a congressman before becoming governor.

He has not yet decided if he will make his returns public.
