St. Louis, MO – St. Louis's mayor and various religious
leaders are speaking out against any plans to cut the state's Medicaid programs for the young and poor.
Opponents of calls to cut the programs say the move would leave at least 160,000 children and adults without health insurance.
At a new conference today at a Presbyterian church in St. Louis,
Mayor Francis Slay says he understands that the Missouri Legislature must make some tough decisions in trying to balance the state's budget.
But he and St. Louis area clergy say that lawmakers should consider other ways instead of cutting Medicaid coverage to those who need it most.
