St. Louis, MO – Metro, formerly Bi-State, is moving closer to breaking ground on the Metrolink's Cross-County extension.
The agency has awarded its first contract to McCarthy Builders. The St. Louis company will build the first part of the extension from Forest Park to Clayton.
McCarthy's President, Carl Kloster, says his company's main task will include building a mile-long tunnel to take the light rail under University City.
The construction will mean Forest Park Parkway from Washington University to I-170 will close for two years. The entire extension will take Metrolink to Shrewsbury.
