Train Car in Southwest St. Louis Leaks Chemical

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, Mo – A train car in southwest St. Louis leaked some flammable liquid yesterday. There were no injuries or evacuations, though cleanup crews blocked off streets that caused some traffic jams.

Fire officials say the warm weather caused the diethyl ketone to expand and leak from a faulty seal in the tanker car.

A railroad hazardous materials (HAZ-MAT)team changed the seal, stopped the leak and cleaned the spill.

The flammable liquid is used to make pharmaceuticals, synthetics, pesticides and solvent.
