Clayton, MO – A judge is asking that the case of accused killer Thomas Erbland Junior go before a grand jury within the next month.

Erbland is accused of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, KMOX radio personality Nan Wyatt. Erbland had been scheduled for a court appearance today, but instead his lawyer met with St. Louis County Associate Circuit Judge Thea Sherry in the judge's chambers.

Also, a public defender was appointed for Erbland, who next faces a court appearance March 25th. He remains jailed.

Erbland has admitted shooting his wife February 18th at their home in west St. Louis County. She was shot several times with a .357-caliber Magnum handgun. Police say the couple had been having marital difficulties.

Erbland tried to plead guilty at his arraignment last week, but was not allowed to do so.
