East St. Louis, Ill. – Debra Powell will not be East St. Louis's mayor much longer. Former city councilman Eddie Jackson and former mayor Carl Officer got the most votes in yesterday's election, meaning they will face off for mayor in the April election.
Powell was a distant third, running as a write-in candidate because the city's election board removed her from the ballot for filing election papers incorrectly.
Here are unofficial vote totals from the East St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners. The top two vote-getters (in bold) move on to run in the April election.
