Crystal City, Mo. – A teacher in Crystal City is appealing that school district's school board decision to fire her for telling a student she's against interracial marriage.
Jendra Loeffelman was fired last month for also saying interracial couples shouldn't have children because those couples' youths are more likely to be teased.
Her attorney says the board didn't follow state law in firing her.
Loeffelman made the remarks in October. She was placed on leave the next day and fired by a unanimous vote of the Crystal City School Board after two nights of public hearings.
Loeffelman sent her appeal to school district administrators, who filed it in a Jefferson County court last week, along with the district's findings of fact supporting the firing.
