Refueling Wing at Scott Air Base Called to Active Duty

Scott Air Force Base, Illinois – Members of the Illinois Air National Guard's 126th Air Refueling Wing have been called to active duty.

Some 250 members of the wing, which flies planes that refuel military aircraft in flight, have been called to active duty for up to one year.

Scott Air Force Base spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Larry Andrews is declining to say when the unit will leave or where it will be based.

The refueling aircraft, all KC-135-E Stratotankers, can pump up to 200,000 pounds of fuel into another plane while both are flying.
