St. Louis, MO – Missouri Governor Bob Holden has been elected chairman of the Midwestern Governors Conference.
He assumed the chairmanship during a weekend meeting of the National Governor's Association in Washington. Before he left for Washington, Holden said he would bring a message to the nation's leaders about states like Missouri that are struggling with huge budget deficits.
He says he's still waiting on the funding for homeland security that was passed with great fanfare. He added he's also waiting on the money for the No Child Left Behind Act.
The governor's conference continues through Tuesday. Holden took over from Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns. Other states in the Midwestern Governor's Conference are Kansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, South Dakota, and North Dakota.
