Hillsboro, MO – New driving lanes opened this morning on
Highway 21 in Jefferson County.
They are the first part of the relocated highway to open since a project began to improve the road in 1991.
For 30 years, leaders have worked for improvements to a dangerous stretch of the road long nicknamed Blood Alley.
The nearly $18 million project included relocating about two miles of the highway, widening it to four lanes and adding new
bridges and interchanges.
The new section is between Schenk Road and Lake Lorraine Road in Hillsboro, a community about 40 miles southwest of St. Louis.
