Jefferson City, MO – The state's top highway engineer says the
state wants to be sure there are no secrets in the state's transportation funding.
Kevin Keith is chief engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation. He said today that highway officials are working on a new plan to divide road construction money between urban and
rural Missouri.
Keith said it is impossible to reach total agreement on the funding split of highway funds. But he says the highway department
wants to get as close to a statewide consensus as possible.
And he says the plan will be done in public, so there are no secrets about the funding.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission now divides urban and rural highway money evenly between rural and urban interests.
