Company Ranks St. Louis Nation's Most-Dangerous City

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – St. Louis has overtaken Detroit as the
nation's most-dangerous city.

That's according to a Kansas research-and-publishing company's ranking based on an analysis of FBI crime figures.

It's the ninth year of the Morgan Quitno rankings. The previous three years in a row, Detroit headed the list. Using a six crime categories, St. Louis this year topped the list of big cities, followed by Atlanta, Detroit, Gary, Indiana, and Baltimore.

But University of Missouri-St. Louis criminologist Scott Decker calls the rankings meaningless, since you can't compare city's head-to-head, but only compare the same city, year to year.

Meanwhile, Amherst, New York, was ranked the safest city, followed by BrickTownship, New Jersey; Newton, Massachusetts; and two California cities, Thousand Oaks and Sunnyvale.
