Jefferson City, MO – A report released today says Missouri's
foster care system is broken and in need of repair.
A state investigation of the system was conducted following the death of a two-year-old Springfield boy, whose foster father has been charged with killing him.
In a report to Governor Holden, investigators recommended measures to improve the system. They included the creation of a foster care advisory panel, re-evaluation of background check
procedures for foster parents, enhanced training, and reduced workloads of foster care case workers.
Holden says he supports the conclusions and recommendations made in the report. He adds that the report identifies a number of areas where policies and procedures already in place are simply not being
followed. And he says the state will take administrative action to correct that immediately.
