Jefferson City, MO – The results from Missouri's great quarter election are in.

The winning design features explorers from the Lewis and Clark expedition, paddling a boat under the St. Louis Gateway Arch.

First Lady Lori Hauser Holden announced the winning design today, following an Internet election that drew almost 218,000 votes.

She said the US Mint would be notified of the winning design, which is expected to be featured on quarters in August 2003.

Voters chose from among five finalists submitted by the Mint. The winning concept originally was designed by Columbia artist Paul Jackson, who has protested the Mint's modifications.

Mrs. Holden declined to release the on-line vote totals.
