Illinois Lawmakers Return to Springfield

By AP/KWMU

Springfield, IL – Illinois lawmakers return to Springfield tomorrow for their fall veto session with a short agenda.

Legislators say they expect things to be quiet as they consider Governor Ryan's vetoes because the Democrats take over in January.

One focus will be on an anti-terrorism proposal authored twice by Attorney General Jim Ryan and rejected twice by Governor George Ryan.

The measure aims to let the state better track and prevent terrorism. Legislators passed this spring, but the Governor used his veto powers to tack on highlights of his panel's recommended reforms to the state's death penalty system.
