St. Louis, MO – The incoming head of the University of Missouri says the slowed economy cannot be allowed to diminish the progress the state has achieved in higher education. Dr. Elson Floyd spoke to faculty, staff and students at the University of Missouri St. Louis Thursday during his introduction as the system's new president. Floyd comes to Missouri during a time of significant fiscal cuts in higher education, but he says there's an unabiding optimism in what the university can achieve.
Floyd replaces outgoing president Manuel Pacheco. He begins his new duties January 6.
