Lawsuit Aims to Stop City Workers from Running Polls

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – City workers and two St. Louis aldermen have filed a lawsuit to stop city employees from working polls on Election Day.

A judge must decide whether employees can legally collect both a city paycheck and a stipend for working the polls. A city union says civil service employees can only do work that fits their job or risk being fired.

The ruling is expected Monday. If it goes against the city, the Election Board will have to rush to find additional help. The Board also said yesterday it misinformed 500 voters in Ward 10 about where they should vote. Corrected voting cards have already been sent out.
