East St. Louis, IL – An East St. Louis legislator is defending
her decision to ask state troopers to drive her to Springfield.
Democratic Representative Wyvetter Younge says in a statement today she asked for the 200-mile round trip rides three times. She says the service from the state police is made available to state legislators in extreme situations.
And Younge says she usually only asked for rides during snowstorms or other weather events.
Republican Representative Tom Stephens of Troy and Democratic Representative Tom Holbrook of Belleville say they would not call troopers for a ride unless they went off the highway in an accident or snowstorm.
Younge's Republican opponent, Marcy Burrelsman of Troy, says Younge should resign for wasting tax dollars.
