Stan Archie Resigns From Mo. State Board Of Education Following 2nd Sexual Misconduct Lawsuit

(via dese.mo.gov press release)

The man who recently took over as President of the Missouri State Board of Education resigned today from the board.

Rev. Stan Archie submitted his resignation to Governor Jay Nixon (D) two days after Archie was hit by a civil lawsuit accusing him of sexual misconduct.  It’s the second such lawsuit filed against the long-time Kansas City pastor and State Education board member.  It accuses him of having sexually inappropriate conversations with a female minor whom he was counseling, giving her money and gifts, and later harassing her after she ended their relationship.

A year ago another woman filed suit, accusing Archie of having a sexual relationship with her while he counseled her and of harassing her after she broke up with him.  Both women are identified as "Jane Doe" in their individual lawsuits.

Archie denies the allegations in both suits and told the Kansas City Star that he’s being targeted by disgruntled ex-church members.

Archie was appointed to the State Board of Education in 2006.  Governor Nixon also released the following statement:

“Strengthening our public education system is a fundamental priority of my administration, and there are several key areas to address in the coming months.  The State Board of Education will continue to have a crucial role in these matters, and it is important for the board to have a clear focus without distraction from its mission.  I will be moving forward with consideration of a new appointment to this board.”
