North County Development denied extra time to make casino presentation

By Marshall Griffin, St. Louis Public Radio

ST. LOUIS – The company looking to put a casino at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers will not be given more time to make a presentation to the Missouri Gaming Commission.

North County Development LLC had sent a letter to the commission saying it would drop out of the running for the state's 13th license if the commission did not slow down the process. Chairman Jim Matthewson denied the request.

The three other companies bidding for the license went in front of regulators Wednesday, trying to ease Matthewson's concern about financing.

The chairman said that it's possible none of the companies will get the license.

"And I want to make darn sure if we're gonna issue that 13th license, the financial situation is clear in all five commissioners' minds before they vote," Matthewson said.

The sites under consideration are in north St. Louis city at the foot of the Chain of Rocks bridge, Cape Girardeau, and Sugar Creek, near Kansas City.
