Clayton, Mo. – St. Louis County authorities have ordered the closure of a nursing home, citing unsanitary conditions.
Whispering Oaks in west St. Louis County was vacated Monday. County officials said it had no running water, overflowing toilets, human waste on the floor and an inoperable sprinkler system.
However a member of the facility's staff blamed a water main problem and said residents will be allowed to return later this week.
Amanda Palazello said that once the main is repaired, the facility will be cleaned up and residents will be allowed back, probably in a couple of days.
