St. Louis – A man from Texas died after losing control of his drag boat while racing on a St. Louis-area lake over the weekend.
Organizers of the Budweiser Creve Coeur Lake Drag Boat Classic said Jim Tucker was driving at about 140 mph in a qualifying round of the event Saturday when his boat lurched violently and crashed.
Organizers say it was the first death in the event's 30-year history.
Also Saturday, a man was killed after a race car flipped off the track and into the pit area at the St. Francois County Raceway in Park Hills.
Reports say he was a crewman for another driver. Three others were injured, including the driver of the car that crashed.
