Jefferson City, Mo. – Nixon's first official action was to rescind nearly 200 appointments made by his Republican predecessor.
Under Missouri law, gubernatorial appointees named while the Legislature is not in session begin their duties immediately but still must be confirmed when senators reconvene.
Barely an hour after Nixon was sworn in, he rescinded all the appointments Governor Matt Blunt made since May.
It's common for new governors to withdraw some, or all, of the appointees of their predecessors.
Nixon spokesman Scott Holste said the governor plans a review to ensure "the most qualified and capable individuals" serve on boards and commissions.
Holste said a large number would be reappointed but declined to elaborate.
