Springfield, Ill. – A possible appearance Wednesday in Springfield from Governor Rod Blagojevich's attorney may provide the first hint of the governor's strategy in fighting impeachment efforts.
Panel members said lawyer Ed Genson plans to attend the meeting of a special Illinois House committee reviewing possible impeachment.
Genson could signal that his legal team will participate in the committee's work by cross-examining witnesses and arguing the governor's case, or he could challenge the committee, perhaps arguing its review should not go forward for some reason.
The impeachment committee met yesterday for the first time but soon adjourned.
The chairwoman, Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie, said the members did not want to begin in earnest until the governor's lawyer could be present.
