I-64 closure moved up to Saturday

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Closure of the eastern half of the Interstate 64 redevelopment project is being moved up.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will shut down the highway between I-170 and Kingshighway at 7 a.m. tomorrow, rather than waiting until next Monday. Project director Lesley Hoffarth says that's because wet weather is expected to move into the area.

"We have re-striping work that has to be done on dry pavement. The National Weather Service is forecasting rain for Sunday night, er, Saturday night. So we're going to start out work Saturday morning to make sure we have everything done that we need to so that we can open the west half," Hovarth said.

Hoffarth says Sunday ceremonies on the western half of the I-64 project - between Ballas Road and I-170 - are still scheduled to take place rain or shine. That section will re-open by Monday morning.
