Washington – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois is mourning the death of his daughter. Christine Durbin, 40, died Saturday in a Washington-area hospital from complications relating to a congenital heart condition.
She had been in the hospital for several weeks.
Christine Durbin worked for 16 years for the Department of Agriculture. She lived with her husband and son in a Washington suburb.
Senator Durbin is up for re-election tomorrow. He's seeking his third term in the Senate after seven in the House.
His Republican opponent, Steve Sauerberg, issued a statement expressing his condolences.
