Democrats issue ethics complaint against Lager

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO. – The Missouri Democratic Party has filed an ethics complaint against Republican State Treasurer nominee Brad Lager.

The complaint accuses Lager of not fully disclosing expenses from a campaign credit card he's been using.

Jack Cardetti is spokesman for the State Democratic Party.

"That is many, many transactions that are paid for with credit cards, and then he pays one check to the credit card company, which is fine, but you need to disclose those individual transactions, because we need to know where politicians are spending their money," Cardetti said.

One sample shows Lager paid nearly $1,700 in August for, quote, "meals, lodging, etc."

The Lager campaign issued a tongue-in-cheek response, stating that Lager drinks water and eats M-and-M's while on the campaign trail.

The statement also called Lager a strong advocate for government transparency, and accused Democrats of resorting to non-issues as a result of their State Treasurer nominee, Clint Zweifel, running a, quote, "losing campaign."
