St. Louis, MO – The so-called Boonie Hat Bandit has been charged with four bank robberies in the St. Louis area.
Donald Keith Giammanco, 44, of Florissant was arrested Thursday after he allegedly held up a bank in Fenton. St. Louis County Police spokeswoman Tracy Panus says other charges are expected.
"These were only the four that the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's dealt with today. The FBI has jurisdiction over the other eight, I believe. I believe there were a total of 12 bank robberies that they believe him to be responsible for."
Panus says Giammanco has confessed to all 12 robberies.
"Our detective who interviewed him and was able to get confessions on all twelve of these bank robberies said he kind of sensed a little bit of relief that he had finally been caught and it was over," Panus said.
Giammanco was dubbed the Boonie Hat Bandit because he wore a military-style Boonie hat during two of the robberies. He is being held on $100,000 bond.
