St. Louis – Pope Benedict XVI has appointed St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke to two major Vatican offices.

The Catholic News Agency reports Burke will sit on the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts. The council's primary job is to interpret canon law.

Burke will also sit on the Congregation for the Clergy, which deals with the formation and training of priests.

In 2006, Benedict appointed Burke to the Vatican's Supreme Court.

Burke was among three American prelates appointed to high Vatican offices this week.
