St. Louis – State transportation officials are beginning to get some feedback from motorists about the closure of Interstate 64.
A company hired by the Missouri Department of Transportation is asking the public, including business owners, about the impact of the shutdown.
HDR Engineering of Omaha, Neb. is being paid about $800,000 for the study.
MODOT spokeswoman Linda Wilson said the study is being paid for with federal funds.
Wilson said they've gotten about 600 responses so far.
"Ninety percent of them feel well-informed," Wilson said. "Ninety percent of them knew about the closure before December of 2007, and two-thirds of them say that their alternate routes are working well."
Wilson said HDRwill gather feedback on the project over the next four years. In addition to the public perception of the shutdown, they will look at the economic impact and whether traffic management has been handled effectively.
