Springfield, Ill. – Starting Tuesday, it will be illegal to smoke in most public places in Illinois.
The Smoke-Free Illinois Act, which Governor Rod Blagojevich signed this summer, applies to every business in the state.
However there are exceptions for nursing homes, hotels, and businesses that make 80 percent of their money from tobacco.
Smokers who break the law could face fines ranging from $100 to $250.
Businesses that violate it repeatedly could be fined at least $2,500.
