Des Peres residents to weigh in on development proposal

By Bill Raack, KWMU

St. Louis – A large crowd is expected for a public hearing in Des Peres Monday night about a proposed retail development at the corner of Manchester and Ballas Roads.

The project, across the street from the West County Mall and Edward Jones headquarters, would include a Schnucks supermarket, Office Depot, a bank and a restaurant.

Opponents say traffic at the intersection could be adversely affected, but Des Peres resident Dan Coyle said studies by MODOT, the city and the developer indicate the opposite.

"All I can really go back to is what the professionals have outlined here in the traffic studies and said we don't see any appreciable degradation in the traffic patterns as a result of this going in," Coyle said.

Coyle lives in the proposed residential buyout area.

The meeting on the Des Peres Corners project is at seven o'clock Monday night (8/27) at the Des Peres Lodge.
