Glen Carbon, Edwardsville ask residents to conserve water

By AP/KWMU

Edwardsville, Ill. – People in the Metro East cities of Edwardsville and Glen Carbon are being asked to conserve water. Officials in nearby Troy say they might soon follow suit.

The move comes during the same week the National Weather Service has been warning of a period of dangerous heat and humidity across the region. Daytime highs around 100 degrees and heat indices between 105 and 110 are expected.

The towns' water problems began Friday when a computer glitch at a pump station in Glen Carbon made it impossible to pump water into a village tower.

Edwardsville supplies water to Glen Carbon water and experienced a pumping problem of its own when a transformer failed at one of its pump stations.

The order affects SIU-Edwardsville, as well.
