New Clayton mayor sworn in

By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The new mayor of Clayton was sworn in Tuesday night; she's now the first woman to hold that job in city history.

Linda Goldstein, who had been a city alderman, ran unopposed earlier this month. She says she wants to keep Clayton a regional leader in the region, and points to ongoing merger talks with Richmond Heights as an example.

"Richmond Heights and Clayton don't have to merge," Goldstein said, in an interview. "But the fact we were having these conversations made us a leader that other municipalities who, not as finanically sound as we are, made it okay for them to talk about it."

A final decision on the merger has not been made.

Goldstein replaces Ben Uchitelle, who did not seek another term.
