Rolla, MO – Gordon Lamb was introduced Friday as the interim president of the University of Missouri system.

Lamb takes over for Elson Floyd, who resigned to take over the top job at Washington State University.

Floyd will remain in Columbia for the next month to help Lamb through the transition.

But Lamb says he has no interest in staying permanently.

"I'm not a candidate for the presidency," Lamb said. "I'm here to do an interim job a position I think I know how to do. And one think I've been able to do in the past at a couple of interims is do a good job of paving the way for a new presidency set some things up so a new president can hit the ground running."

Curators' chairman Don Walsworth says the university hopes to hire Floyd's permanent replacement within a year.

But curators have not publicly identified a timetable for that process.

Lamb will earn $382,000.
