St. Louis, MO – The Missouri Senate Wednesday night passed a bill that establishes a program to replace Medicaid when it goes away next year. A final vote on that legislation could come today (Thu.).

Two years ago, lawmakers cut more than 100,000 Missourians from Medicaid and 300,000 more lost services.

Governor Matt Blunt's new plan is called Missouri HealthNet. But critics say it does not do enough for those who lost their insurance two years ago or for the 700,000 who never had it.

KWMU's Maria Hickey prepared this report.
