St. Louis, MO – More homes will start to come down today (Thursday) near I-64 and I-170 in Richmond Heights, where a major rebuilding project recently got underway.

A few homes were removed last year, but more are needed to make room for a new interchange. The $535 million project will rebuild ten miles of I-64 in St. Louis City and County.

The project also will see entire stretches of the highway closed at points, a strategy that transportation officials said will speed up the work and optimize worker safety. Opponents fear it will cause massive traffic tie-ups.

The project is expected to be completed by 2010.
